The LCR Honda Team and their two-time winner Cal Crutchlow are confident of producing a positive end to an excellent 2016 MotoGP season, with the Brit qualifying on the fourth row of the grid for the final round at Valencia. Crutchlow and his crew worked tirelessly to find solutions to the issues that have dogged their progress throughout practice for the 18th round of the championship, and things looked positive with the lap times he set during the final free practice session and as he breezed through the first qualifier. In final qualifying, the LCR man then suffered a fast off through the fast right-hand turn ten on his first lap out of the pits. Although he rushed back to the garage and was able to post a time, he will start Sunday’s event from 11th place on the grid, but positive about his chances of making up places during the race.
Cal Crutchlow:
“I’m disappointed because I believe we could probably have been on the second row today, but I crashed on a cold tyre
on my out lap in qualifying and that wrecked my chances because we didn’t have any more tyres available after having gone through Q1. This is racing though. I warmed the tyre quite a lot through turns four and five, the two right-handers, and then when I got to turn ten I was slower than on my previous out-lap so I don’t really understand why I crashed. We have to check. I spent some time in the pit-lane and maybe the tyre got cold, I made a mistake and now we are 11th on the grid. Overall I think my race-pace is a lot better than 11th and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
