After a heroic ride in France two weeks ago, when he remarkably came back from a monstrous high-side crash which hospitalised him overnight, Cal Crutchlow was back in fine form at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello, setting the sixth fastest time on day one of practice. The LCR Honda Castrol man is still suffering the after-effects from the Le Mans incident, with sciatic pain running through his back and legs, however he steeled himself to clock an impressive lap of 1’47.433. Despite not feeling as comfortable as he had in testing here a few weeks ago, the British rider is positive about making further progress and qualifying in the top positions in Saturday’s qualifying session at the Italian GP.

“Today was a positive enough day. We weren’t overly happy with our position or the feeling on the bike in the second session, but I think sixth position is good enough for now. We are working hard with the HRC engineers and within the LCR Honda Castrol Team in order to improve our package for tomorrow. We look forward to challenging for the front row in qualifying – this is our aim – and then taking it on to the podium on Sunday.”
